RNAase protection assay

Sensitive and quantitative alternative to Northern blots for the measurement of gene expression levels. Labelled antisense cRNA is transcribed from a DNA clone in an appropriate vector, hybridized with an mRNA sample, and single stranded RNA digested away with RNAase, then run out on a gel. The amount of labelled RNA surviving is directly proportional to the amount of target mRNA present in the sample.
